Tasty Jade cucumbers in soil under fluorescent lights 2010

2 Dec 2010:  Full size Tasty Jade cucs in a pot under lights. Seeded 7 Nov.  Two plants at the moment. This variety sets cucs without polination.  This should be interesting!

8 January 2011. Plants growing well.  Producing flowers. Growth manageable so far. Potted mega cherry is tucked behind the cuc pot.

29 January 2011: Two cucumbers picked and ate today.  Very nice. One will be ready in a few days:

4 February 2011: Cuc number 3 picked.  Crispier and more cucumber taste than 1 and 2 .  Two more plumping up.  Plants doing fine.

21 February 2011: Cuc number 6 just about ready with two more plumping.  Plants have the yellow edged leaves and spotting I've seen on every cuc plant I've grown indoors.

18 March 2011:  Twelve cucs total for this grow. Very acceptable.  Good tasting cucs, too.  Plant being added to compost pile tomorrow - need the room and light for spring seed starting,  Good grow!! Actually going to give one away with the swiss chard (to a good friend).

Potted cucs doing well.  I need to get them closer to the lights.  Plan is to let them grow horizontal across the blue tray.  Fertilizing with MG bloom fert.  The plant behind them is the mega cherry in a pot - it is ripening a couple of tomatoes!  Need to move it out of the way.

Beautiful, Beth! You're going forward with 2 plants in the pot? I keep debating whether to cut my two to one (also in potting mix under lights). So far, haven't thinned on the grounds that I can always remove one, but can't add one... I think the pot is about 4 gallons.

Yes, keeping two even though I shouldn't.  Always the optimist (sp? this netbook only spell checks in French.  Gotta fix that)

Well, at least in the early stages, they grow better / bigger / faster under competition. Later... dunno.

I just tied mine down to force them sideways a bit. They kept adding 3" overnight and toasting themselves on the lights.

Congratulations, Beth!

'Tis the season, I guess. A few of my Korean white cukes are definitely plumping up too. Yours might be a little ahead of mine.
