I did look into the site speed issues a bit today, with a guy from my web hosting company (Westhost.com). We can't find any performance issues on aerogardenmastery itself. But - because of the lightboxes and pictures, we're at the mercy of speed issues from Picasa, etc., picture hosts. So... at the moment, that's my best guess. And it does kinda match when I notice the most speed problems here - leisure hours / days, esp. Saturday evenings, etc.
Ward off the April 1st thing?
As we noticed, the performance issues were not resolved. FWIW, I've been working the problem with the hosting company for the past couple days. Right now, the site is quick, and they assure me they've resolved something on the server, so it should stay fixed. Wish me luck...
The problems actually have nothing to do with aerogardenmastery. We're on a shared server, and something one of the other hosting clients is doing, is hogging all the resources. Or was, hopefully.
Is there a way to just jump to the newest post on a thread, especially for book pages? I am using Firefox if that is causing a problem. Everytime I need to read a post and get the context, I click on the new post on the recent post page but the link just brings me to the first page of the thread or book instead of the last post of these pages. Seems to me like it is wasting BW there, especially for pic intensive first page.
It's a good idea, Stonecold and Jessi. On my things to do list.
This isn't a Firefox problem, but rather has to do with pagination. What's supposed to happen is that when you click the "2 new" link (colored link), you jump to the first new post. And that does happen - if the 2 new are on the first page worth of comments (I think I set it to 30 per page) on the book page. The trouble comes in when the new posts are on page 5, it doesn't formulate the request properly to jump to comment 147 on page 5 (or whatever). A minor matter of coding.
Which I haven't gotten around to.
There's another issue, I think where I'm jumping to comment 17 or something of a page I was the author of, where I don't even get the "2 new comments" link at the top of the page. Maybe. Haven't characterized that one as well.
Need to dust off my JavaScript skills (and learn new ones), to fix these. Or maybe they'll be fixed by installing latest round of updates to misc Drupal modules, dunno. I might get lucky...
Oh - but - neither of these cost a performance hit on the site. They're just irritating and time-consuming because it doesn't do what you want it to do. Unless it's Google Picasa (or Photobucket for a Photobucket user) which is running slow. Which does often happen. Then, any pictures can make things slow.
It's still boogying right along today, good job!
Thanks! That problem may be licked. Judith's been reporting some odd Access Denied errors when she tries to post or email someone though... If anyone has problems like that, could you post here as many details as you can? It's really, really hard to track down and fix non-reproducible errors.
I'll try.... Judith sent me a PM and I got an email with a link to it here. It said access denied when I clicked on the email link so I logged in and got the same thing, access denied, when I clicked on the email link again. I looked everywhere through my profile, etc and couldn't find where the message could be. I finally clicked on Judith's name and sent a message back. HTH
Oh, I saw once where Judith had written a long message, got "access denied" when she tried to post it and it disappeared into the ether. Aggravating to be sure as it's happened to me. What happened is that you posted right after her first post and before she posted the abridged version, thus the "edit until somebody else posts" feature bit her. Been there, done that and always copy a long message before I send it now.
1:23 MST - Now I can edit this message even though you've replied since, gisette. Could it be that you're the admin and it didn't toggle the edit button off for some reason?
So this access denied happens fairly often when cross-posting?
Interesting re the emails... Um, I don't think I've ever gotten an email that has these links. Were they legit? As in, Judith really sent you an email that said to come here to pick it up (the message wasn't sent inside the email)?
Cross-posting doesn't affect new messages but barfs when I'm trying to edit a boneheaded message I just posted and somebody else posts a message while I'm editing. About 95% of the time I can only edit a message until someone posts afterward but sometimes, like now I see the edit button on my previous message even though you've posted in between. I dunno......
Judith's email was from Aerogarden Mastery and contained both her short message and a clickable link to here but it shows "access denied" no matter what I tried. I'll click the envelope below your avatar and send you one but being the admin, you may not see the same problem. How do we find our PMs here?
Edit - check my message above yours. The time changed and it shows as a new message. Three more of my other messages in this thread also show an edit button, two don't.
Well... on the email thing at least, for what it's worth, those links don't do anything particularly useful. You've already received the whole message in the email you're sent.
Well... The site speed was doing so well there for a while... But today for a while, it was dismal. And Level 2 support couldn't find any cause by the time they looked into it.
If you notice dreadful performance, could you please note the date and time (either Eastern or say what time zone please
), duration (how long there was a problem, even if it's only how long you bothered to try) and let me know, either here or in email? Thanks...

I was beginning to think you were hosting it on your home computer.
But yep, that makes sense with all the new pics popping up all of a sudden. I've seen some horrible speeds at quite a few "big" places lately. I think lots of people are scrambling to ward off the April 1st thing, too.
