Outdoor Eggplant 2012

This year's eggplant gets a pot. Until I acquire a family of 8 to feed, I'm not growing an eggplant in a growbox again. Though it did get a big pot, and a half-growbox nute strip. The transplant was about 6 weeks old.

Harvests: 22 (first ~7/28, small, but I needed it for ratatouille) - ended 10/6

Gretel eggplant failed to

Gretel eggplant failed to thrive:

Decided to invest $ 0.85 in a new plant. Unfortunately, the nursery only labeled it "White". A picture came with that... kinda shaped like a Black Beauty, probably smaller, rated at 65 days to harvest, and white. < shrug > Bigger than a gretel would be good. Taste as good as a gretel would be excellent. Lower yield would be perfectly OK.

After last summer's bumper

After last summer's bumper crops, I grew no eggplant inside this year. I've still got fried eggplant in the freezer from last summer...

This is a gretel eggplant, but it's dying. Maybe cold. Maybe because I buried its stem, which was kinda flopped over from too much wind during its toughening-up days. Maybe the broken stem was fatal. Maybe too much fertilzer. Dying, anyway.

I bought a replacement plant yesterday which gives "White, 60 days" as the variety. Bit plumper than gretel, from the picture. Fewer, larger, would be good.

what variety? When was your last indoor eggplant harvest? Are you ready for more? I threw my eggplants into the earthbox last Saturday before I went on travel for work and crossed my fingers. They survived and look good. It is very warm on the deck but they did get a few cloudy days to settle in. I'll take pix when it cools off tonite.
