The new catalog:
http://www.aerogrow.com/retailresource/catalogs/aerogrow-product-catalog020909.pdf

Things I noticed in the new catalog are:
1. new copper trim on some model i.e. SS6 Elite copper,
2. Elite + has a new configuration with the trellis systems included
3. Ladybug renamed to Antics Ladybug and added Antics Soccer ball (Sept '09)
     - These are painted versions of AG3 that might appeal to kids
4. Herb 'n Ice said availability Sept 09 but it is on AG site now.
5. Tea kits (available Sept '09) with 2 Bergamot, 2 Lemon Balm, 1 Peppermint, 1 Lemon Mint. - $19.99 available for the AG6
5b. Tea kit with Bergmot, Lemon Balm, Peppermint for the AG3 for $14.95
6. Country Fair has Bell Pepper kit (2 red pepper plant) in addition to the already available mega cherry tomatoes and the ruby heirloom tomatoes kits which are already on AG site for a while now.
7. Garden Starting tray for the SS6 (Sept 09) for $29.95
8. Be the Bee Pollinator for $14.95
9. The Master Gardener Deluxe kit for AG3 (9 pods) for $29.95 which is too high.

It is very telling that in the new product catalog the 7pods AGs and their seed packs share 1 single page whereas the the AG3 Antics had equal billing plus another page for regular AG3 and a page for AG3 seeds.  My prediction is that they will phase out the 7 pod AGs within the next 12-18 months and only stock limited seed kits and replacement parts after that.

Their prospect catalog only has the AG6 and AG3....  No 7 pods at all.

I had saw the lavender kit for AG3 and AG6 last week and the pesto basil kit for 7 pods.  AG updated the pesto basil photo today and use the same photo for the 6 and 7 pod and I think it is a new kit for the 6 pods.

Don't remember seeing the herb 'n Ice before in the accessories and if so, I would have to question a review done on Jan 7 for it.

Also, their Feb 2nd press release said that 500K people owns aerogarden and now the Mar 19 press release says 740K owns aerogarden so I think they must had done a recalc and change their assumption of say 3 people for family to 4 people for family or something..

apparently it clones very well...  I will have to try and start it from seeds unless I can track it down when the garden center get their herbs mid-May.

Hm. Well, when it's a little bigger I'll take some cuttings and explore. I'd definitely like to clone it.

ColoCook has grown the

ColoCook has grown the pineapple sage hydroponically although I am not sure if they were in AGs, I think it was his homebrew kits.

Ah. Oh, well, probably too

Ah. Oh, well, probably too big a plant for an Aerogarden, anyway. Lovely outside, though! And it's a salvia - gaudy red flowers. Ornamental and tasty! Apparently the flowers are edible too, and might actually taste worth eating. (Saying a flower is edible is all very well and good, but it's pretty rare anyone says they taste good. )

I was exchanging e-mail /

I was exchanging e-mail / messages with someone I send some sweet chocolate pepper seeds to.  He has grown pineapple sage for a while and raves about it.  He said they do very well from cloning / cuttings and offered to trade me a cutting for the seeds I sent him.  Unfortunately that does not fly for Canada so he will try to send me some seeds but apparently is much more difficult to start the herb from seeds.

Tea - I just got a perennial

Tea - I just got a perennial planter with pineapple sage in it - that stuff's nice! I thought it was a mint until they told me otherwise. A broken leaf in a goblet of tea really does flavor it pineapple!

I just got an actual March

I just got an actual March customer catalog today in the mail with something from AG customer service.  Some points:
 * It seems that the $20 off on all AGs are going on till May 15.
 * There is an Elite Deal with herb kits, salad green kit and extra bulbs for $169.95 (20$ off is not applicable to bundle)
 * 7 pod AGs (Classic, Pro 100, Pro 200, Deluxe) have half pages each for a double page together with a 3/4 page for 7 pod AG summery and mention in 3 shelf wall garden deal.  Seed kits are not pictured but a simple list.  So 3 catalog pages total on AG 7s.
In comparison AG6, AG6 Elite, AG6 Elite +, AG SS6, AG3, AG3 Elite each have a double page spread and 6 pod seed kits 4 pages and 3 pod seed kits 3 pages.  -> Clear indication that 7 pods are being de-emphasized and possibly on its way out.

There's a page on the light

There's a page on the light bulbs in the catalog pdf at the top of this topic. According to that, there isn't a great deal of difference in light output - Deluxe slightly higher. But the bulbs aren't interchangeable between hood sockets.
