A little bit of everything, subject to change any time

This is like going to a friend's house for dinner and finding they have the slide projector or video of their vacation to Hoboken ready to bore you to death. At least here you can leave at any time. It shows the good, bad and ugly as I learned to keep little bushes green and sometimes produce fruit.

It's going to take the rest of my life to make glogs of all my AG adventures so I'm using a great program called ProShow Gold to throw together some slide shows of the pictures I have left. I'm missing hundreds from an almost daily log for 3 months but I'll dig them out of a backup and really bore you to death. It'll improve as time goes by. They're javascript on my server and won't do harm, promise. Click on the thumbnail pic or name below it to start.

  1. Chiles
  2. Tomatoes
  3. AG table right
  4. AG table left

I see lightbox as an option but haven't wrangled it into shape yet. I'll keep plugging away. Maybe add music and the smell of popcorn if I really work at it.

Enjoy!

Thanks for the interest,

Thanks for the interest, Jessi. Those are old slideshows from four months ago and are nowhere up to date. You can install the little viewer program, it's harmless but most of us don't like to add another widget to the zillions we already have. In a nutshell, the Super Chile peppers are still going like crazy, the herb garden just got retired after producing a ton of herbs and the tomatoes... they were full size tomatoes that I had no idea what they were. They did great untill they got tall and the bottom got too little light. I added the Big Lots light to the bottom but it was too late then we got bugs that for some stupid reason, sprayed them with vinegar that pretty much killed them. It's been a lettuce garden for quite a while and doing right well.

There's almost the same things on my Picasa page if you look around plus a bunch more that would bore you to death. The URL is picasaweb.google.com/av8ndv8 . I've gotten a little lax adding pics lately.

Yeah. Picasa comes with a

Yeah. Picasa comes with a desktop app that hunts down your pictures, and you set them up there, and sort them into albums. You rotate them, use fill light or whatever to salvage a poor picture, add a caption if desired. Then thumbnails and N sizes of the photo are generated by uploading the album.  And rummaging around the album on the web, shows thumbnails, steps through, auto-steps if desired, shows captions, allows people to comment there... So you could then lightbox a few highlights as desired over here, but then external-link to the albums on Picasa for people to see the bulk pictures.

I'd always done pix manually - been doing webstuff since '94. But I tried Picasa exactly once, and became a convert.

I'd still like to see my lightbox shows easier to make, that's for sure.... Though pasting single pictures in from Picasa isn't too bad. There's a segment of the thumbnail URL that goes "s128" (size 128). For the full picture, you can just paste the same URL changed to "s640". And provide caption and click the lightbox thing on...

Guess I'll have to check out

Guess I'll have to check out picasa and photobucket but I still like hands-on. I'm old school that thinks everything should be kept local and back up regularly to an external raid1 array with monthly off-site copies. I haven't lost anything I wanted since '91 or so but I've checked my weekly backups going back 3 months and there are none of my lost photos. Can't imagine what happened, I have lots of missing days and some gaps of over two weeks of only pictures, everything else is fine. I've done *.jpg searches of my main computer and the external drives with no joy. May check the other computers but can't imagine why they'd be there. Totally weird.

So can I just dump a bunch of pic folders into picasa or whatever and they will make linked thumbnails and all that good stuff? How about lightboxes? You've got me really loving them but they're a lot of work doing it manually. I can automate auto rotating, thumbnails, resized images and putting them on my server but inputting all the links manually is beyond tedious.

Huh. Do you think you could

Huh. Do you think you could just upload your pictures to Picasa or Photobucket or something, and link to the albums here? Picasa will do an automatic slideshow of an album, and it's real easy to use. They give you something like 10 Gb storage for free - with all the albums I have up there, I've used less than 1/4 of the freebie space.
