fall/winter growing 2010

Hi All,

Got some things started inside for the fall/winter.  So far:

AG1: monstruoso basil. Started 18 Sep. 3 plants growing nicely.  One may have to be sacrificed since two is plenty in an AG.

AG2: one mega cherry tom and one red heirloom tom (cherry).  Not what I wanted but one red heirloom didn't sprout.  We'll see.  Using aerofalls nutes for now. Started 18 Sep.

AG3: Mini Jalapeno peppers. Started 11 Oct.

AG4: Using to start cilantro, dill parsley and pea sprouts (starter tray with supplemental air stone).

6" Pot: Extra Mega CherryTomato in MG pot mix.

More to come (cucumbers, bell peppers, swiss chard and work ag - mustard greens)

Basil, amarylis and mustard

Basil, amarylis and mustard greens.  Work ag mustard greens much more robust.  I like the mustard greens very much.  Crunchy and not spicy but distinctive taste.  I'll post pix of the work plants next week. Need to harvest basil - had to buy a new blender to make lemon basil sauce! I think these mustard greens are going to go next time we have salad.

Your lettuces look so wonderful! Just ate half of ours today - not much to them.

Outdoor lettuce is still

Outdoor lettuce is still growing like crazy - even with night time temps in the 30's (F).  I'm suprised the volunteer tomato is still alive and setting buds!  Good location right next to the concrete basement wall. Looks like a few salads this week!

Edit.  Sorry for the fuzzy pics.  Really need a new camera!

I wear out Picasa's neutral

I wear out Picasa's neutral color picker sometimes. Not so much a problem with the camera, as with the light, I think. Despite CFL's everywhere, my house seems to have a lot of yellow light. Then the camera tries to compensate somehow...

These look great, Beth.

Herbs - parsley, dill and

Herbs - parsley, dill and cilantro, mini bell pepper and cuc pot seeded 7 Nov 2010 (Tasty Jade - full size cuc that sets fruit without pollination (parthenocarpic)) under fluorescent lights in the basement:

Edit: time for a new camera - the plants are not yellow but healthy green and I seriously could have cleaned the outsides of the pots before taking a picture!

Lettuce still going

Lettuce still going gangbusters.  Who would have thought it would do so well crowded in a container in Oct/Nov.  This is after harvest - had 2 big salads tonight with the last garden cuc.

Hi All,

Outdoor cucs are hanging in - first cuc tonite and a few more on the way:

Indoor herbs - parsley, cilantro (Johnny's herb seed disk - I'm impressed with the germination rate!), and dill:

Hi Gisette,   I didn't add

Hi Gisette,

I didn't add any fert to the earthbox, just watered with liquid fertilizer.  The main problem is wind.  The cover whips against the seedlings (killed a few).  Looking better now.

Wow, Beth. Are those all the

Wow, Beth. Are those all the same age / variety? Huge difference growbox vs. the pot. Do you think it's the dampness of the soil, or just fresher / more fertile soil in the pot?

My outdoor lettuces dawdled for a long time, but the ones in my growbox are finally getting big now. But I added more growbox nutes, and the weather finally turned cool.
