Cucumbers #2 for me:
6 day old babies:
Two for the ag and two to be planted in an earthbox under fluorescent lights in the basement.
Day 29. Floramato nutes EC 1.8, pH 6.0.
Day 67. Floramato nutes EC 2.4, pH 6.0. First cuc set.
Alrighty folks, Floramato has arrived. Gotta love Amazon. Pesky thing called work will stop me from changing nutes until tomorrow. Looking forward to a successful cuc grow!
Beth
Looking forward to this also, I think you will be fine with your all-in-one FloraMato.
One tiny problem with my FloraMicro/FloraMato mix - the pH doesn't seem very stable, it's keeps crashing below 5! I'm a little unsure whether this nutrient has buffer issues, the Flora 3-Part did not give me these problems and remained fairly stable.
It could be related to our liquid FloraMato though, your one may give you no troubles.
Hi Peat,
I'll keep an eye on pH. So, at 11 days, should I shoot for an EC of 1.6?
Thanks,
Beth
Yes, your cukes are doing well so up the nutes.
Hi All,
12 days since seeding. Changed over to Floramato, EC 1.4 and pH 6.0. Two cucs moved to an earthbox under lights. Once I see if they survive the move, I'll post pix.
Beth
Really looking forward to this indoor-earthbox grow, Beth. Pretty please tell the downsides as they occur?
Did you get a new fertilizer pack from the Earthbox people, or pick your own?
Will do, Gisette...
Huh. That looks like a new kind of leaf spot. Peat's leaf browning tended to crispycurl around the edges, didn't it?
Did you check the pH again? Seems to me I get mid-leaf lesion type stuff when the pH crashes. Just a thought.
Are the EarthBox cukes still doing well?
Yes, exactly what I had to contend with in Cuke I and II grows.
Cuke III is still holding out against this (week 6 tomorrow), what's different? Change of nutes to FloraMicro/FloraMato (and my lower pH of 5.5); with a much better light. It's hard to say why this one is growing better, probably a combination of these two changes?
Are you using the FloraMato exclusively for this? I noticed you said 'hydro bloom' in your post.
Hi Peat,
I'm using Floramato as the main nute. Added Flora bloom as a supplement on the theory that the cuc has enough nitrogen, but needs more potassium. We'll see..
Beth
It looks in much better condition now, I hope the other leaves don't go the same way.
Nice! I bet having all the AG's in a clump is helping! Share the light.
They look pretty good! I'd clip off the bottom crunchy leaves, tho.
Crossing my fingers for you, after Cuke III failed I'm hoping you get better results.
Hi All,
So, it IS possible to grow cucumbers in an aerogarden. Picked one tonite. I guestimate I'll get 5 total from this grow. The plants look awful. But the earthbox plants look pretty bad, too (but I can say I'll get at least 15 from the eb). Do you all want to see the awful plants? Not many people want to see pics of crunchy plants! By the way, I've upped the EC to the ag cucs to 2.2 the past two weeks to get the cucs to fatten up. All cucs tasted good!
Beth (24 F and 35 MPH winds in Southern Maryland today - Brrr)
Sure, I'm curious what they look like, especially a closeup of a leaf going bad!
So 5 cukes from 2 plants in 2.5 mos in the AG? Well... possible, yes.
15 from 2 plants certainly better. Is it just lack of light that is limiting the Earthbox cukes, you think? I haven't gotten great yields from my growbox cukes outdoors. Was plotting my summer garden this afternoon, and thinking I'd try a few Japanese cukes in the ground this year.
18F and 15 mph winds in shoreline CT... but they keep revising the overnight temperature forecast downward
Because the temperature keeps falling beneath the prior forecast low.

I agree Beth, it is possible to grow a cuke in an AG but the crop is rather poor.
I've given up now, the leaves start to degrade after the first proper cukes are produced and all those little cukes just shrivel up. I think it would still keep producing, but, the whole plant is just in such a sorry state you feel like putting it out of it's misery...
I'd also like to see the poor plant, I guess it's the same as we all have experienced though.
Wow, Beth, thanks for posting. Those don't look so bad! Better than most of my outdoor cukes looked this fungusy summer.
Is one plant a lot healthier than the other? Like, would cutting down to one for better light penetration help, maybe? Just a thought.
Beth: Different varieties definitely produce differently per my own experiments with 2 varieties. My next buy will be one grown for greenhouses. What do y'all think?

. I changed water and nutes on 4 Nov. EC 1.8, pH 6.0. Today (7 Nov), added water and EC dropped to 1.4. Added 2.5 mL of Hydro bloom to raise the EC to 1.7.

Ooh, neat, Beth! I'm really looking forward to the earthbox idea... I like this idea, maybe I should drag my driveway growbox into the garage and plonk my seedling shelf atop it. Hmm!
It's going to be awfully cold in there soon, though.
