Grow An Avocado Tree

I just cant help myself!

Tonight I made the most delicious guacamole from an avocado that my bf had gotten me from the supermarket last week. At the time, it was not ripe so I put it in my grow tent and it ripened beautifully! The guacamole was amazing and went perfectly with my homemade salsa, made with my homegrown cilantro!

Yes it will take about 3 to 4 years to produce fruit but how cool is it to say... Yes, darling I have my very own avocado tree

Oh, that brings me back! My mother always dried & then planted avocado seeds, so I did the same in college - same inspiration, a great batch of home-made guacamole!  A room-mate's dogs did in the avocado plants, but they were pretty while they lived.

Indoors, I've never seen them amount to anything but an ornamental.

Also don't they need warmer weather?  I know California and NZ grows a bit of Avocados and they tend to have more temperate climate than NE.

SS6 to Mom (Jan 09) and AG3 to sister (May 09).  Own SS6 (Apr 09) with salad green/brassicas.  1 red/black & 1 black AG3 to be planted (May 09) and await pickup for white AG3 and black AG6.

Yes, they can only grow indoors in the Northeast (and Canada). As a plant, not a fruit-bearing concern. At least, I don't think you could get fruit out of them indoors. Maybe with a big enough greenhouse...
