Antibiotics is the Fat Culprit?
My Mom sent me an interesting article today:  The Fat Drug, in the NYTimes. Basically, it says that it was always-known that feeding antibiotics to livestock made them grow much fatter on less feed. And that it did the same thing to humans.

The question remains how to turn the switch back off, once it's been turned on. The article went in an interesting direction about the microbe suite in our digestive tracts. We've always known that antibiotics disrupt the microbes.

P.S. A cynic might note that
P.S. A cynic might note that no one has a profit motive to cure obesity by simply turning that obesity switch back off. Far more profits to be had in managing obesity with minor results and recurring cost.

That's been the accusation,
That's been the accusation, yeah. But this is saying something a little different. That by feeding children / young animals antibiotics, a switch is switched metabolically / something. In other words, it wasn't necessarily in our food, but more likely in the antibiotics modern medicine fed us directly.

Though we may get a constant low-level repeat dose from the food we eat.

Dunno, but I'm inspired to go buy and eat some Activia. I'm pretty good about eating some acidophilus after a course of antibiotics - because I hate yeast infections. But I haven't had a direct course of antibiotics in years.

I definitely share your lack of trust in the FDA's priorities, though. Which are set by Congress. Which is owned by big money, pure and simple. Possibly by the AMA, as much as Monsanto.

It has always been said that
It has always been said that we are getting sick...and fat...from the additives in our food. I often wonder that rather than holding walks and research for cancer, diabetes, heart disease,obesity...why the dickens dosen't the FDA just clean up the food they are approving for the nation's consumption?
Answer...Daily Double....""$$$$$"" of course!
