On December 8, 2008 I planted 1 Red Cherry Tomato plant in my white AG3 (as well as salad greens but thats another blog
). I began a blog to document the growth here http://www.jessijordan.com/aerogarden/
Unfortunately, this little guy did not make it.
On January 15, 2009 I received a new pod from AG & I planted it (after sanitizing the unit).
We were off to a good start. This time all 4 seeds sprouted. I hated to have to thin them out & wish that I put them in separate little cups of water till the grew roots & planted them in pots.
Anyway, this week Thursday the plant will be 8 weeks old. We have been having a little trouble which I am hoping is behind us now. Here are the juicy details: http://aerogardenmastery.com/drupal/content/cherry-tomatoes-grown-using-... .
Thanks be to Peat & Gisette for their amazing help!
I will be updating pictures every week
Stay tuned ![]()
Hey! U looked at my website! lol
Hey! U looked at my website! lol
All the best for this jess, I hope the plant comes good for you. Lovin' the newly designed AG3, it's going to help a little with the extra light reflection.
I just got this email from AG CS that reads...
Hello Jessi,
Thank you for sending pictures of your tomato plants. My apologies for the late reply.
At a glance, your plants look very healthy and happy. The stalk and leaves are quite green and the plant size is perhaps a bit small, but nothing of concern. It is normal for some of the bottom leaves to turn brown and die off. Just remove those leaves.
I cannot recall if we talked about nutrient tablets, but if any sticky or wet residue appears on the nutrient bags, please be sure to rinse the bag out in the water bowl. The tablets can sometimes leech out some of the nutrients that your plants need, and rinsing the bag in the water ensures that the nutrients are in the water bowl, not stuck to the bag. In the future, we will provide liquid nutrients so this will not be a problem.
Please feel free to email or call if you have any other questions.
Thank you,
Tracy Lyons

The pic I sent them was this one...
I am just glad I found this forum, Peat & Gisette! Now I feel like my plant really has a fighting chance.
It is very good news that AG will soon be offering liquid nutrients instead of the tablest! Yay!
Really! Thanks for sharing that, Jessi - very interesting!
Looks like an alliance between AG and General Hydroponics then.
I wonder how they are going to market the nutrients, ready made, mix your own...?
Maybe not.... That experiment with GH is awfully recent for them to have come to a deal that Customer Service is telling customers about. AG does have patents on their nute formulations. It's the staying-dry thing that's been an issue. They might be packaging the same stuff differently, minus the hydrophilic not-completely-dissolving tablet substrate.
I snuck a peek at your web page, too. WOW again!
The liquid nutes comment is vellly intelisting. It does seem awful quick for an AG/GH alliance but it makes all the sense in the world. But they'll hafta pry the flora series outta my cold, dead hands.
Thank you Bruce! Thank you very much!
I cant wait until AG & GH come together. They need to make a "newbie" proof liquid nut ASAP.
Can anyone tell me if my red cherry tomato plant looks like it is doing better?
I still see some leaves turning brown but it is growing new leaves.

It looks better than the one above, and it's growing new leaves...
With the hydrogen peroxide, it only lasts 3-4 days before it's all used up. It won't hurt to put some more in your tank if it's after this period, same small dosage, 1.2mL per litre.
Ok great! I will add some more right now. Today is the 5th day.
My measured the capacity of my AG3 & it is sooo small! I poured in 5 1/2 cups of water & its full! I am only using the tiniest bit of H2O2 (3% is what we have here in the US).
Should I always add the H2O2 to all my AGs?
If so, even the new one with lettuce I just planted today?
No, I would only use it if I had problems, or an occasional dose if I felt like it - my cuke and toms got a little every now and then.
H2O2 can also kill good bacteria so I would not do continuous feeds, if the plants are growing good then leave them be.
ok thanks! Thats good to know.
I just dont know about this plant.
The leaves keep turning brown and crunchy on the bottom and now its closer to the top than ever.

Should I start over with new seeds?
Are those the original leaves that turned brown, or, are they completely new growth that's gone from healthy green to brown? They look like your original brown ones, if they are, they will never turn green again. Once a leaf is damaged, that's it I'm afraid.
They are new ones turning brown.
Its the leaf positioned directly in front with the little spots.

That is now turning brown and crunchy. It seems to happens to the leaves below whatever new growth springs up.

OK, I've been going through my books searching for your problem. Assuming the plant is not nutrient burnt and it's being grown in good conditions, then it points to some form of disease.
I'm therefore going to guess at Tomato Blight - here are the symptoms: You’ll first notice small brown spots on the lower leaves, followed by leaf yellowing and finally browning of the leaves. The disease progresses up the plant gradually killing the leaves.
Does this sound like your problem? I'm sorta clutching at straws here, anyone else with any ideas?
Well... I'd remove the browned leaves, keeping my hands off any healthy leaves. And keep the new tomato seedlings away from this one.

Yup, Thats what I did & it is still happening.
I think Peat might be right. I have everything but the yellowing part. It goes from green to brown & dies. I gave it dry nutrient tabs that AG sent me, I sanitized the bowl 2x with bleach, used distilled water and added H202!
Well, I guess there's nothing else to do... this one going in the trash. I just wonder how it got this disease? This was the second time the red cherry tomato kit failed me
My new babies are in the other garden across the room out of harms way so God willing I will have homegrown tomatoes this summer!
Assuming the plant is not nutrient burnt
Say it is nutrient burn... how would I fix it? Give it only half a tablet?
It's not nutrient burn. You used distilled water and an AG tablet exactly sized to the reservoir and the plant.
It's most likely a fungal disease. You did cut off the dead leaves last week, but left some that were getting ill - so probably fungus still spreading.
After doing all I could to save this plant I decide it had to go. I am sanitizing the bowl (for the 3rd time this week!) for whatever I decide to grow next. Not sure what that will be yet.
Sorry about your tomatoes.
The twinkle phlox and petunias are very pretty...
I just got this email from AG...
Jessi,
Your plants look healthy, even though there are some browning leaves. This could be due to the light and heat being reflected from the foil on the grow surface. It does not appear problematic as the majority of the plant looks green and they are growing normally. Just remove the brown leaves as necessary.

Healthy? Um.. lady I think not! Lol!
Exactly!!!
Thats what I'm saying Peat! U feel my pain!

Yay! Looking forward to its progress!
Wow, a music star!
