2014 Aerogarden Greens and Flowers

The minis continue here from the 2013 topic, but the toy choi/green onions are 1 week old now - time for a 2014 topic.
9 week mustard and senposai, 23 week mimulus 1 week toy choi and green onions 1 week green onion in Aerogarden

I'm guessing one green onion per pod, but I'll leave two in one pod, to check that. I'd really like a continual supply of green onion in the kitchen. We'll see how that works out.

I planted green onions in potting mix the same day. Those are too small to be worth a photo yet - just emerged. I hope to replace my windowbox chives with windowbox green onions. We don't eat the chives anymore. They're just pretty, especially the purple pom-poms in spring, and the tall green spray contrast with short annual flowers. Anyway, growing onions is my learning theme this year. Along with brussel sprouts (for fall).

This is the first day of Spring, and how WONDERFUL to log on to AGMastery and see a new phrase which picked me right up today and put me in the mood to grow!!! Hey..isn't that what it is all about?
ginger saud: "I can festoon it with flowers"  ...I LOVE that and am running with that phrase.

I think I accidentally killed
I think I accidentally killed most of my mimulus dumping their nutes yesterday. So! Since I was getting out the trusty old Park Starts block anyway... Next round, 7 toy choi for the Pro100, four more summercrisp lettuce for the splashers is plenty of greens, so both minis are going to grow flowers next.

Just so I remember what I planted...

up: Cinderella snapdragon, and twinkle phlox
down: baby duck petunia, and mystic mix mimulus
middle: sunshine mix gazania, and vinca cora punch

I think those are all kinda slow, except the mims.

tiwtiwkayle - One of the interesting parts when writing my book, was continually choosing the editorial "voice". There was this constant temptation to take a pose, for this, against that. I tried to stick to the viewpoint of, "I think this is cool!" Everyone brings their own agenda to gardening, or any other hobby. A lot of people do it for health, yes.

But that's not why I do it. And it's probably only a secondary reason (at best) for most people here. But I'm perfectly happy with whatever agenda inspires someone else.

FWIW, one of my higher agendas in gardening is that no matter how modest a home I have, I can festoon it with flowers, and make a green oasis inside. Beautiful flowers and plants feed my soul. And a nice garden shows taking pride in my home.

Could harvest toy choi any
Could harvest toy choi any time now. Green onions in the Aerogarden was probably not a good idea. Starting to think about replacing the mimulus garden. It's been a full half year - productive little plants!

4 week toy choi and green onions 12 week mustards 12 week mustards - harvested 26 week mims, got another pruning
18 week overgrown lettuce splashers - 3 romaines and maybe a bibb 18 week lettuce palms after harvesting

Toy choi and onions coming
Toy choi and onions coming along. I replaced only the left AG CFL a couple months ago. Can really see the difference in the toy choi between the two sides.

2 week toy choi and green onion - note effect of newer AG bulb on left 10 week mustard and senposai, 24 week mimulus

Getting kinda bored with mustard greens and mims, but it's Spring Seed Starting Season, and I don't need more planting projects.
